What becomes evident

For instance, I, Erik van Kempen, one of the founders of StudyLuna, once had a goal of retiring before the age of 40. On the surface, this ambition seemed like a clear marker of financial success and early freedom. However, as I delved deeper, I realized that this goal reflected more about my dissatisfaction with my work environment and the industry I was in, rather than a genuine desire to quit working altogether. It became evident that what I truly craved was not early retirement but the freedom to choose my path and engage in “meaningful work”.

I wanted work that was both playful and intellectually stimulating. This realization came only after considerable reflection, coaching, and facing failures. I learned that aligning my career with these values led to a more fulfilling and balanced professional life.
